Have you ever felt the hot white sand, some warm sun, and the freezing Atlantic waters? If you have, maybe you’ve been to Popham Beach, Maine which is my special place!
At Popham Beach, you arrive to a mile-long beach filled with many seagulls. You can smell some salty air from the ocean. You can see the blue sky, crashing waves, sunshine and many people with smiling faces. Everyone at the beach feels happy and relaxed, including me. Many kids are playing and building sandcastles with their families.
When we go there, we set up a tent with some umbrellas, a cooler, chairs, and snacks. We love to go to this big tidal pool with lots of hermit crabs. We usually put them in a bucket and make them a little habitat with seaweed, sand, pebbles, and some small clams. Popham Beach lies on the Atlantic Ocean and the water is very cold. It is hard to get used to the cold water, but I swim anyway! If you go scuba diving or snorkeling, you will find many species of fauna and flora. While swimming, sometimes the seals get close to you. Also, you can see big boats out in the distance where there are endless miles of empty ocean. It feels like it goes on forever.
There is something really cool about this beach! It has an island that can connect to the beach when the tide is low. We always try to climb the island and then snap a quick photo of the beautiful view. It looks like just a regular island, but is has many small puddles of ocean water with wildflowers, rocks, and tall grass. I can’t wait to go back this summer. Someday, I hope you can visit my special place too.
